Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
The city, founded by a captain of the Castilian Navy Army in 1478, was port of call for Christopher Columbus on his first trip to the Americas and also on the way back to Spain. The Casa de Colón museum hosts different historical evidence of his trips. Another famous personality linked to the island was Sir Francis Drake, a pirate for the Castilians, who failed to plunder the island in 1595.
As the other Canary islands, Gran Canaria has a subtropical climate that grants between mild and warm temperatures all over the year. What a wonderful place! It will let you enjoy the beach all year round! And there are a lot of beautiful beaches on this island both for relaxing and doing all types of water sport.
Even though these are the main reasons for tourists to choose Las Palmas for their holidays, here there is also a wide cultural and leisure offer. For example, the Science Museum and the Miller Building, both of which hold cultural activities. Santa Catalina’s park is the key centre of the Carnival, which is very important in the Canary Islands and followed with interest in the rest of Spain.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a miniature continent where centuries of rich history meet natural spots of great beauty… A restless island that changes its aspect at the turn of the road!
